How often should you have your house professionally cleaned?
· 5 min read · BN Visionary Cleaning Services
There is no single right answer to how often a house should be professionally cleaned. It depends on who lives there, how much of the cleaning you want to keep doing yourself, and your budget. Here is a way to think it through.
The three common rhythms
Weekly. Best for larger households, homes with young children or pets, or anyone who wants the house consistently ready. Each visit is quicker, because less builds up between them.
Fortnightly. The most common choice for a typical home. The bathrooms and floors are reset every two weeks, and you handle the small tidy-ups between visits.
Monthly. Suits one or two people in a smaller home who keep on top of daily mess themselves. Each visit takes longer, because a month of build-up has to be dealt with.
What changes the answer
- How many people live there. More people, more mess, more often.
- Pets. Hair on floors and furniture builds up fast.
- Young children. Floors, bathrooms and kitchens need more frequent attention.
- How you use the house. Working from home, hosting often, or cooking daily all add up.
- Allergies. If dust or hair affects anyone, a shorter gap between cleans helps.
- Your time and energy. The point of a cleaner is to give you time back. If you are still spending your weekend on bathrooms, the gap is too long.
A sensible way to start
- Start with a deep clean if the home has not had one in a while. It resets the baseline and makes later visits easier.
- Book fortnightly for the first couple of months.
- Adjust. If the house still feels behind, move to weekly. If it is staying tidy, try monthly.
Add extras only when you need them
Ovens, fridges, inside windows and carpets do not need cleaning every visit. Add them a few times a year, or when you notice them.
What it costs
